Santo Stefano di Sessanio: one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The hospitality. How to get there.

Santo Stefano di Sessanio is a small medieval village in the Province of L'Aquila, not far from the beautiful villages Castel del Monte and Rocca Calascio.

At an altitude of 1.251 meters, Santo Stefano di Sessanio is part of The National Park of the Gran Sasso's and the Laga Mountains, to which the village provides access to the southern entrance.
Village with 120 citizens, Santo Stefano di Sessanio is one of "The most beautiful villages in Italy" as is the nearby Castel del Monte.

As the nearby burghs of Rocca Calascio, San Pio delle Camere, Castelvecchio Calvisio and Barisciano, Santo Stefano di Sessanio was and is part of the historical "District of the Baronage's Lands".

On the top of a hill, in the middle of a huge valley, the medieval village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio offers visitors one of the most beautiful view of the Abruzzo countryside: on the southern side, the marvelous tops of the Sirente Mountains and on the northern side, the magnificent Upland of Campo Imperatore (the Gran Sasso Mountain).
The village, built in the medieval age, has been restructured completely and today it is the destination of an élite tourist. In fact, a part of the village of Santo Stefano di Sessanio is property of the famous "Albergo Diffuso of Sextantio", a luxurious boutique hotel which uses the restructured ancient buildings in different places in the burgh.
The Sextantio Hotel was created from an idea of the businessman Daniele Kihlgren which was the union between hotel / burgh.

Visiting Santo Stefano di Sessanio today introduces the tourist to a new model of tourism, a sustainable tourism with harmony between tourists and the people living there.
